Kirsten Dunst Talks Recovery
4-Oct-2008
Written by: Jessica McCumber

The former child star opens up about her stint in rehab.

People.com reports that instead of shunning away from the time she spent in rehab, actress Kirsten Dunst talked openly about it to reporters at the press day for the upcoming movie, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.

"Everybody in life goes through obstacles in different times of their life, and this year was my difficult time," the 26-year-old said, "It's part of life and it's just called growing up."

Dunst, who checked herself into Utah’s Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in February for depression, said her time there really helped her to prioritize and that she’s even learned a few things from the experience.

"What I have learned is if you make it out of this business and realize the whole bigger picture of it all, you are in a good spot," she said. "It's just seeing what is important and the bigger things in life."

A key thing for Dunst was realizing that her personal life was important, too. The former child star now feels that being too camera focused is unhealthy.

"It's not healthy to live that kind of life. I don't live in the spotlight and I don't live my life in front of the paparazzi. I live very comfortably and quietly as possible."

The star feels more confident that she can have a “healthy” life now, and says there are other people in Hollywood who are balanced.

"There are plenty of people who have made it. I think Natalie Portman is quite smart and has made the transition."
