Robert Burns Is Dylan’s Muse
6-Oct-2008
Written by: Claudine Paul

Burns is Dylan’s muse.

Can a renowned eighteenth century Romantic poet serve as an inspiration for one of today's biggest singer-songwriters? Well, for Bob Dylan, the answer is yes.

The Times Online reports that the balladeer has attributed the work of poet Robert Burns as a source of inspiration. The singer especially marks the "1794 ballad poem, A Red, Red Rose," as a major influence. The subject is part of a music retailer's advertising campaign overseas. Other heavy hitting musicians, such as David Bowie, Elton John, and Ozzy Osbourne, for example, have also been asked to participate in the campaigns.

Burns, a famed Scottish lyricist, is most noted worldwide for the New Year's Eve lyric poem, Auld Lang Syne.
