Whitaker Will Direct and Star in Louis Armstrong Biopic
7-Oct-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
It will be called What a Wonderful World.
Forest Whitaker will direct and star in a new biopic about Louis Armstrong for the company that produced La Vie en rose.
Ron Bass, who will write the script for the film, will also stay on to executive produce alongside Oscar Cohen, the executive of Armstrong's estate and Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation.
The film will be the first authorized project by Armstrong's estate. It will begin in the musician's early years in New Orleans, but will mostly focus on his career as one of the best trumpet players and improvisational singers the country has ever seen.
"Armstrong left a monumental mark on our lives and our culture," said Whitaker, who portrayed jazz great Charlie Parker in Bird. "He lived an amazing life and, through his art, shifted the way music was played and would be heard after him, not just here in the U.S. but all over the world."
