Alanis Morissette "a Hockey Fan"

The rocker will be part of this year's NHL Face-Off 2008 with concert.

Darting around on skates, pushing people out of your way and making the goal: Is there any better way to release pent up rage than hockey?

Not for rocker Alanis Morissette who admits to NHL.com she's been a lifetime fan of the contact sport, reports People.com.

"I've been a hockey fan since I was fresh out of the womb, to be honest," admits the 34-year-old and that a love of hockey is all in the family, adding, "It would have been hard not to be in my family since we're all hockey fans."

With such hits as "You Oughta Know" and "Forgiven," one can easily picture Morissette taking on the boys when she says, "I played street hockey a lot."

The singer admits though that her Canadian roots have more to do with her love affair with the sport than anger.

"Most Canadians learn how to skate when they're 2 years old. I was one of those kids, so I skated a lot on my figure skates and my hockey skates."

Even more surprising though is that for the spunky singer, hockey is more of an art form than anything aggressive.

"I think hockey is like dancing; it's such an art," she continued, "At one point it was quintessentially Canadian . . . so I think there's something sweet about that."

The star is such a fan that she will be actively participating in the NHL Face-Off activities being held on Oct. 9, by broadcasting live part of her Montreal concert on Versus and CBC.

Morissette told NHL.com that among the songs to be played will be her ode to the Dalai Lama, "Versions of Violence," from her new CD, Flavors of Entanglement.

She also said she would be performing one of her fan's old favorites from her debut album, Jagged Little Pill.
