At 2-2, the Miami Dolphins might not have the most grandiose record in the NFL.
At 2-2, the Miami Dolphins might not have the most grandiose record in the NFL. But they have defeated last year’s AFC Champions in the New England Patriots. The subsequent week led to a victory against the San Diego Chargers. How are the Dolphins winning these seemingly challenging games? One theory is a bizarre formation that they utilize. This formation is known as Wildcat, and this left their opposition dazed and confused. There are countless permutations to the Wildcat format. Sometimes, Ricky Williams will lineup as a slot wide receiver. At various other times, the starting quarterback, Chad Pennington, will be split out at wide receiver. Finally, Ronnie Brown will be standing directly behind the center. Moreover, there could also be some wrinkles to the pre-snap formation sprinkled in here and there. An alteration that can confound defenses is when running back Ricky Williams goes in motion. Another play that can be run from that formation is a direct snap to Ronnie Brown. Furthermore, a run or pass option is also available. Whether teams like it or not, the Wildcat strategy looks like a formation Miami will continue to run until someone knows how to defend against it.
