1980s Hit Show “V” to Invade Prime-Time Television
11-Oct-2008
Written by: Mayra Quiroz

ABC braces itself for alien invasion with revamp of '80s phenomenon.

The 1980s miniseries about invading alien lizards on earth, V, will be making its comeback on ABC, reports Variety news.

Aboard the new adaptation of the franchise is two time Emmy nominated co-creator/producer of The 4400, Scott Peters, as writer. Peters comments that he “wasn’t looking to do another sci-fi piece. But when Warner Bros. TV approached” him about reinventing V, the producer said he couldn’t resist. "Whenever I mention ‘V’ to anybody, they still have a lot of good memories about the original movie and series," Peters says, "Everybody has that imagery of their uniforms, or the visitor eating a hamster. It’s a science fiction icon and too good to pass up."

The original series of V was to most a parable of the Holocaust and Nazis, but Peters comments that he will not copy that concept into his new adaptation. Instead, he will modernize it and focus on what happens when the masses have blind faith in their leaders.

SPOILER ALERT! Read below at your own risk!

The new spin on V will center on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with a problematic son. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them — causing family tension. Several story lines will also unfold simultaneously as in the original series. However, fear not fans- the original structure of the alien hit will remain intact. As in the original, the show will open with an enormous army of spaceships hovering over the world’s major cities. The visitors will claim they’ve come to help Earth, but their motives are everything but that. (Remember in the original they wanted to steal the world’s water supply!)

Eventually, Warner Bros. TV dunked Peters’s pitch and went to ABC, so stay tuned soon for prime-time evenings of alien invasions, action packed adventures, and the return of the 1980s sci-fi hit, V.
