Jorja Fox: Why I Quit CSI
11-Oct-2008
Written by: Mayra Quiroz

CSI’s Fox speaks about leaving #1 crime drama and the future

“It has nothing to do with my contract, nothing to do with money. . . . It could be the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life. Only time will tell,” comments Jorja Fox, CSI’s tenacious Sara Sidle upon confirming her departure from the hit show. “It's my call — and a very, very difficult one.”

In October 2007, it had been confirmed by both CBS and Fox herself that she would indeed be leaving the show. They did however leave an open end for Sara to come back, as was seen in last Thursday’s CSI premiere, with Sara’s return upon hearing of Warrick’s death.

As to why she left, reports Entertainment Weekly, Fox comments that there are many personal and professional things she wants to do. “I really need to do some of them before I get too old. . . . It's a really intense place to work. A lot of the stories [on the show] do end sadly and badly. That's been one of the things I've struggled with — the violence. I'm not saying I'll never do another violent [project], because I'm sure that I'll be back in that world someday, but it's really good for me to take a break from it.” Fox adds that she was at the end of her contract, and even though there was a window for negotiation for another contract (so as to continue the show), she felt that the show would still be around longer and was not ending anytime soon.

To the disappointment of a lot of CSI fans, Fox will be leaving in a very crucial point in the Grissom-Sara romance. “One of Sara's biggest hopes was that her hiring seven years ago would lead to a very significant, stable relationship with Gil. So it is rather ironic that Sara should finally get this proposal and we find later in the season that she would be disappearing from CSI.” She adds that if she were asked to guest star, she’d be more than thrilled.

As for the future, Fox seems to be ready for a break. “I might buy a ticket for around the world. It's also summer in the Southern Hemisphere, so I might take a surf trip. I forgot to have kids! And there are several projects of my own that I'm excited about.”

Tune in next Thursday for an all new episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on CBS.
