Last week against the Houston Texans, the Colts had to pull a rabbit out of a hat coming back from a 17 point deficit with only minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. At 2-2, the Indianapolis Colts are looking completely different from last year. Both of their losses have come at their new Lucas Oil Stadium to the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. On the bright side, the Colts are undefeated on the road. With the Tennessee Titans off to a perfect 5-0 start, things appear to only get more challenging for Coach Tony Dungy. Maybe rust is an issue for Peyton Manning. He missed the entire preseason with an injury, and he has not been able to find a rhythm with Marvin Harrison. This is further exacerbated by the fact that Pro Bowl running back Joseph Addai is struggling to gain yards. As a matter of fact, injuries have plagued the Colts this year. It all starts up front for them. Perennial pro bowl center Jeff Saturday has been injured, and Tony Ugoh’s injury might have also hindered Manning’s efficiency. This does not even take into account Dallas Clark being hurt from time to time. This Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens are coming to town after a painful loss to the Titans in the previous week. With interception machine Ed Reed at safety and Ray Lewis’s intensity, the Ravens seem ready to pull the upset. Colts pro bowl safety Bob Sanders will not be playing in this game, and that can be problematic for a team that has been awful at stopping the run this year. This plays right into the hands of the Ravens ball control offense. The caveat to all of this is rookie quarterback Joe Flacco. Clearly, he was exposed by the Pittsburgh Steelers defense a few weeks ago. Dwight Freeney could play a role if the Colts are to win this game. Manning looked more comfortable in the pocket last week, and he will have his full complement of offensive players. A Colts loss here might set in motion a chain of events that could lead to a tumultuous season.
