Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Puts His Basquiat on the Block
11-Oct-2008
Written by: Claudine Paul

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich to put his Basquiat on the block.

Besides a career in music, Metallica's Lars Ulrich proves his skills as a smart arts investor.

The New York Times reports that the drummer, within a month's time, will put his final 1982 painting of Jean-Michel Basquiat's "Untitled (Boxer)" for sale through Christie's auction house in New York. Ulrich, an avid collector of the arts, purchased the painting nine years ago. The creative work, oft believed to be subjective in matter, displays Basquiat's distinctive style and technique.

With the expectation of an impressive financial return, Basquiat's painting will be auctioned at Christie's on November 12, 2008. The piece is currently on gallery display in Europe.
