John McCain schedules an appearance on “The Late Show.”
In late September, John McCain canceled his appearance on David Letterman's The Late Show, choosing an interview with Katie Couric instead. According to the AP, McCain has scheduled another appearance on the popular late night comedy program.
Letterman was publicly vocal about the incident, cracking joke after joke about being stood up by McCain. Letterman was told that McCain's cancellation was due to an emergency return trip to Washington, and a temporary suspension of his presidential campaign. The cancellation was due to Congress's financial bailout package, and the economic crisis that was unfolding.
According to ABC News, Sen. McCain then participated in the interview with Couric, leaving Letterman with dead airtime in which he showed clips of McCain preparing for his interview with Couric at the time he was supposed to be on the Late Show. McCain then stayed in New York till the following day, making a public speech the following morning, according to ABC News.
The Late Show appearance gives McCain the opportunity to reach an audience that he might not reach otherwise, and follows up the third presidential debate on October 15.
