The Indianapolis Colts might have just saved their 2008-09 NFL season with a gigantic victory against the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts seemed to be flying on all cylinders: offense, defense, and special teams. Coach Tony Dungy appeared to have mollified all of their conspicuous flaws. The game started with a bang both figuratively and literally. Peyton Manning actually played like Peyton Manning with a deep pass to Harrison, and the Colts never looked back. There were brutal hits and points in a matter of minutes, as Indianapolis jumped to a 31 point lead.
Prior to week six, a lingering question about the Colts was what was wrong with Marvin Harrison? A succinct answer to that question is nothing is wrong with Marvin Harrison. Quarterback Peyton Manning threw two touchdowns to the future Hall of Fame wide receiver. Manning ended the game with three touchdowns, and Colts fans can exhale.
Indianapolis has been criticized for their lackluster defensive performance all year long. Bob Sanders’s replacement, Melvin Bullitt, played well by intercepting a pass from rookie quarterback Joe Flacco, and everyone else on the defense followed Bullitt’s intensity. Robert Mathis and the relentless pass rush were too much for the Ravens to overcome. Baltimore had no answer for the swift Colts defense. The Ravens were given a taste of their own medicine by allowing the Colts to run a ball control offense of their own.
