A Small Measure of Vengeance for the San Diego Chargers
13-Oct-2008
Written by: Sayed Islam
The San Diego Chargers have finally beaten their archrival New England Patriots.
It is official. The San Diego Chargers have finally beaten their archrival New England Patriots. Each of the last three meetings between the two teams has led to a Patriots victory, and that would include last year’s AFC Championship game at New England. San Diego will improve to a .500 record of 3-3, and the Patriots will regress to a record of 3-2. Patriot backup quarterback Matt Cassel threw one interception, and was sacked for a grand total of four times. The Chargers simply outplayed and outworked the Patriots from start to finish.
Physical cornerback Quentin Jammer did a brilliant job on pro bowl wide receiver Randy Moss. Moss was limited to three catches for barely over twenty yards. Phillip Rivers threw for three touchdown passes, and he appeared as if he was completing every single pass. The two most significant drives transpired in the third quarter. New England drove all the way to the goal line. They went for it on fourth and goal, but the Chargers had a magnificent goal line stand. On the next Chargers possession, Rivers led his team on a 98-yard drive which culminated with an Antonio Gates touchdown catch. The final score was San Diego 30 and New England 10.
