Oliver Stone’s New Biopic “W.” Is About Pres. Bush

Oliver Stone’s new biopic “W.” sheds President Bush in a different light - as a human being.
SFGate reports that while Oliver Stone has never agreed with President Bush's politics, Stone has found him to be the perfect subject for his new film. Presidential biographies are nothing new to Stone, the mastermind behind the films JFK and Nixon.
The film was based on extensive research, and it gives us a window into the private life of a man dealing with his personal demons. While the film's primary focus is on Pres. Bush's personal life, there are also recreations of some of the meetings where the Bush administation created the war on terror.
The film traces Bush's life from his college days and follows it through his failures at business and politics. It shows us his life behind the scenes, as he finds the approval and respect from his wife and his faith that he sought from his father.
The film stars Josh Brolin as Pres. Bush, Ellen Burstyn as Laura Bush, and Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Cheney. The cast mostly shares Stone's political views, and star Josh Brolin said, "Everybody will be surprised in one way or another, no matter how differently you see it. It's a very human depiction of this guy's life."
Originally slated to be released closer to the presidential inauguration in January, the release has been moved up to precede the election, although Stone is skeptical that it will have much impact on the way people vote. The film is also a testament to the freedom Americans have. It is possible that only in America could a film be released about a head of state who is still in office.
