No Brit Award for George Michael

Recent drug scandal costs George Michael Lifetime Achievement Award.
Two time Grammy Award winning English singer-songwriter and international superstar George Michael will no longer receive a coveted Brit Award due to his recent controversial drug arrest, Mirror.co.uk news is reporting.
Michael, who has had a career as front man of the duo Wham! as well as a soul-influenced, solo pop musician, was set to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music award at next year’s Brit Awards. "George was frontrunner to get the lifetime achievement award. But Brits bosses felt it would be better not to be associated with him for the time being since the Brits is a shop window for our music," comments an industry insider.
On September 19, 2008, Michael was arrested in a public toilet in London for possession of drugs. He was taken to the police station and cautioned for controlled substance possession. This arrest unfortunately was not the first for the pop superstar, however. In 2006, he was arrested numerous times for reckless behavior under the influence of unauthorized prescription drugs and pled guilty to driving while unfit through drugs in May 2007.
The Brit Awards have been the British Phonographic Industry's annual pop music awards since 1977 and are expected to take place on February 18, 2009 at London’s Earls Court Arena. Robbie Williams, Annie Lenox, U2, and Coldplay among others have been prominent figures at the Brit Awards as well as popular winners. Oasis, Bob Geldof and Duran Duran have been past recipients of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, which unfortunately for George Michael, will not be awarded to him next year. A new candidate for the award has yet to be announced.
