Tim McGraw Does Not Endorse His Greatest Hits Album
Country music is often the butt of jokes for those who do not enjoy it. The joke mill will probably be running overtime, as country star Tim McGraw is publicly slamming Curb Records' decision to release another greatest hits album of his music, saying that he was not involved in the project in any way.
USA Today reports that McGraw is almost finished with a new studio album and is surprised and disappointed that his label would make this move, instead of releasing new music. McGraw was quoted as saying, "Sure I love the songs and I don't want to take anything away from all the creative people who were part of making those records. But the whole concept is an embarrassment to me as an artist. In the spirit of an election year, I would simply say to my fans 'I'm Tim McGraw, and I don't approve their message.'"
McGraw has been with Curb since he first came onto the music scene in 1993, and this is his third greatest hits package. He has only released one studio outing since his last greatest hits album was released. Aceshowbiz.com reports that McGraw still has at least one album left on his contract with Curb, and it is likely he will move to another label as soon as his contract lapses.
Record labels are notorious for going to great lengths to monetize their artists. It will be interesting what effect, if any, this has on McGraw's reputation and Curb Records' credibility.
