Hilary Duff: Putting an End to Childhood Hunger
Hilary Duff participated in a philanthropy to put an end to childhood hunger. The 21-year-old actress brightened the day for many children at an elementary school at Fort Wayne, Ind.
Duff participated in the Blessings in a Backpack event at the South Wayne Elementary School. The nonprofit donates food to students between the ages of 5 and 11 every Friday to ensure they have enough food for the weekend.
"I feel lucky enough to have a voice or a name that people might pay attention to. I think that people might not be aware that a couple neighborhoods away, kids aren't having food on the weekends, and we just want people to be informed and to know what's going on in their communities and to help if they can," said Duff.
This isn't the first school Duff has visited; she earned praise of a teacher in Orlando who wrote a letter to Duff's Web site: "I have a 3-year-old daughter and Hilary Duff will be a positive role model in her life. Not because she is an actress or singer but because she is a good and decent person who wants to make a difference in the world. Her parents should be very proud."
