Britney's Father Granted Indefinite Conservatorship
Singer Britney Spears's father will maintain conservatorship over his daughter's financial and personal affairs for an indefinite amount of time after a court commissioner extended the conservatorship, according to the Associated Press.
The permanent conservatorship was granted because the singer is "susceptible to undue influence," according to Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz.
A court-appointed attorney said the details were fully explained to the singer and she did not oppose extending her father's conservatorship. Her father, Jamie Spears, was scheduled to end his conservatorship on Dec. 31 this year.
The 26-year-old singer is permitted to contest the conservatorship later but if she does not, the conservatorship will endure for Spears's lifetime.
The conservatorship has also granted Spears's father control over his daughter's legal matters, including a misdemeanor case that was dismissed last week. The conservatorship attorneys prevented Spears from testifying at the trial.
Jamie Spears was granted conservatorship in February after his daughter showed increasingly erratic behavior and was hospitalized twice. Since her father gained conservatorship, the singer has shown signs of stabilizing her personal and professional lives. A comeback album is scheduled for release on Dec. 2, the singer's 27th birthday.
