Courteney Cox Is on the Prowl in Cougar Town
According to the Los Angeles Times, Courteney Cox has been tapped to star in a new ABC comedy sitcom titled Cougar Town. Cox will play a forty-something who is newly single with a 17-year-old son. Cougar is the popular slang term for mature, i.e. older women who date younger men.
The ABC comedy was created by Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and Scrubs writer Kevin Biegel. According to Lawrence, in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, "There is a comedy area about a woman who is talking about Botox, about having sex with the lights on and how her body is changing." Cox is not a fan of Botox though, as she revealed in November's Marie Claire. "It's not that I haven't tried Botox-but I hated it."
Cox should be very comfortable in her comedic role in Cougar Town. She is a veteran of comedy sitcoms after her 10-year stint as the obsessive and competitive Monica Geller on NBC's Friends.
Cox has some time on her hands since her F/X series, Dirt, was cancelled following the writers' strike. Cox executive produced the series with her husband, fellow actor/producer/director David Arquette.
Cox and Arquette have been married since 1999 and they have a 4-year-old daughter, Coco.
