MTV Announces Beatles Game
Following in the footsteps of interactive video games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, MTV announced Thursday that an agreement between the network and Apple Corps Ltd., which handles The Beatles' affairs, will produce an interactive video game due to hit stores as early as next year, according to Reuters.
The video game will mark the band's first collaboration with digital music. The Beatles do not offer their music electronically in online stores such as iTunes.
Apple said the game would be an "interactive music making game" and would not be released under the Rock Band name.
Apple would not confirm how many songs would be used in the upcoming game, though chief executive Jeff Jones said the game would include a range of songs.
"This game will take you on a journey from the Beatles first album, Please, Please Me, all the way through the last album, Abbey Road. It will span samples of the whole catalog all the way through," Jones said.
MTV said original band members Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, the widows of late band members, were responsible for the game's concept.
An official release date or price has not been given.
