Ellen DeGeneres Is "Saddened" by Gay Marriage Ban
The day after the election was one of mixed emotion for talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, reports the Associated Press.
Yes, the Democratic candidate won, but the Proposition she has been fighting to defeat the last few weeks, that would support a constitutional amendment in California banning gay marriage, passed.
In a statement made Wednesday to the Associated Press, DeGeneres said that she was "saddened beyond belief" about the passing of Proposition 8.
DeGeneres said that she, "like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step toward equality" when we elected Obama president.
But to Degeneres, the passing of Proposition 8 also meant that "we took a giant step away" from having full equality.
DeGeneres had donated $100,000 to the campaign against the passing of the amendment in the weeks before the election.
This is disappointing news indeed for Degeneres, as she had married girlfriend Portia de Rossi in an August ceremony after gay marriage was given the okay by the California Supreme Court back in May.
The comedian said she is not giving up, and will "continue to speak out for equality for all of us."
