Jack Black Is a Giant . . . in Gulliver's Travels

Jack Black has been tapped to play the giant in Fox's new production of Gulliver's Travels.

Jack Black holds a larger than life presence in the world of entertainment. He is now taking that position literally, having signed for the lead role in Gulliver's Travels. Filming is set to start in March, but Fox has yet to release the details, including the location of the set. The film will be directed by Rob Letterman (Shark Tale, Los Gringos), who has been aboard the project for some time.

Written in 1726, the tale centers around Lemuel Gulliver, a writer who washes up on an island in the Bermuda Triangle, and finds himself in the world of Lilliput, and little people only six inches tall. While the original book contained much satire toward the culture of the age it was written, it is not known yet how true to the book the new film will be, although it is rumored to be set in the present day. Previous productions have been very loose with the original material.

The book has had several adaptations hit both the big and small screens over the years, including a 1939 Disney film, a stop motion feature in the 1960s, a feature film in 1977, and a TV miniseries in 1996.
