“The Dark Knight” Death Called an Accident
7-Nov-2008

A jury ruled on the matter.
The death of a special effects technician on the set of The Dark Knight has been ruled an accident.
A jury at Monday's two-day investigation at Woking Coroner's Court in Surrey, England heard the facts of the case. They were informed that Conway Wickliffe was killed during a test run of an action sequence in which the Batmobile was blown up.
The 41-year-old father of two was reportedly leaning out of the car and operating a camera when the Batmobile crashed off of the test track and he was killed, in September of 2007.
Wickliffe's wife, Dee Chase, is pleading with big movie studios to hire health and safety officials to oversee each and every stunt to make sure that another accident doesn't happen.
"Warner Brothers (the studio behind The Dark Knight) are a huge multi-million dollar company - why are they cutting corners like this?" Chase asks. "These guys are under pressure because the director will say he wants something and they have to respond as quickly as possible. It is the culture of the industry and it needs to change."
This case might not be completed, however, because the BBC is reporting that the Health and Safety Executive in England are considering bringing in a prosecutor to further examine this case.
