Chris Rock to Redo British Comedy
10-Nov-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

Rock will produce, among other things.

Chris Rock will collaborate with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Sony's Screen Gems to provide Rock's unique spin/take on the 2007 British comedy, Death at a Funeral.

Rock is extremely involved with this project - he will produce, star and co-write the script with Aeysha Carr.

The original film was released by MGM in the States, where it grossed $8 million. It made $46.5 million worldwide, which is an amount that all parties involved hope can be increased by one of the world's best, most famous, comedians.

"Chris, who was an unabashed fan of the film, came to us with a hysterical, completely new reimagining of the original concept," said SKE's Jim Tauber, who is on board as an executive producer along with writer Craig. "Clint and his team loved it and jumped on board right away, and they're bringing their considerable marketing and distribution savvy to the project."

Funeral is scheduled to begin production in the spring of 2009, but that date depends on the producers of the film finding a director - a task that shouldn't be terribly hard.
