Ridley Scott Collect Free Parking: Tapped to Produce Monopoly Movie

Ridley Scott is landing on free parking, and is producing an adaptation of Monopoly.

The Hollywood Reporter broke a very strange story: Ridley Scott is set to direct a film adaptation of timeless board game "Monopoly." Scott is a veteran of mega hit films, including American Gangster, Matchstick Men, and Gladiator. Pamela Pettler (Monster House, Corpse Bride) has signed on to write the picture.

Hollywood Reporter tells us that the film is intending to take a left turn from the board game, spinning a narrative tale around the real estate concept. Scott has told the press that he intends to give the movie the same kind of futuristic treatment he gave Blade Runner. Given Scott's track record with films like Alien, it will be interesting to see if the "Monopoly" film looks anything like the board game at all.

Hasbro is teaming up with Universal to make the film. And if that isn't bizarre enough, Hasbro has also entered into pre-production with films for "Ouija Board" and "Battleship." While Transformers, another Hasbro holding, was a smash hit, there's no telling what kind of film Monopoly will be. No word yet on what role the terrier dog and wheelbarrow will play.
