An artistic director was the target of scorn after his support for California’s Proposition 8 was discovered.

An artistic director was the target of scorn after his support for California's Proposition 8 was discovered. Scott Eckern, of California Musical Theater in Sacramento, resigned his position as Artistic Director after a firestorm erupted once it was known that he supported Proposition 8. Eckern, of the Mormon faith, reportedly donated about $1,000 to support Prop. 8, the California proposition narrowly passed on November 4. The proposition limits the term "marriage" to define a union between a man and a woman. Eckern was the artistic director at the nonprofit musical theater group, but has resigned his commission after various activists in Sacramento and nearby communities began picketing and complaining over Eckern's beliefs. It is not yet known how Eckern's support of Prop. 8 came to public light.
