Fox Cancels “Mad TV”
13-Nov-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

It seemed to be a long time coming.

Fox is changing up their schedule. First, the network cancelled long-running King of the Hill and now they've axed sketch comedy show Mad TV.

The Saturday night mainstay will finish off its 14th season, but then will no longer air on Fox, sources at the network confirmed Thursday morning.

While Mad TV will no longer air on Fox, co-creator David Salzman is optimistic that it will catch on at one of the many cable networks out there.

"There’s a long list of parties that have called us, including a few very recently, and we’re going to start conversations with them very shortly," Salzman said.

Fox told Salzman that the show had become much too expensive in terms of the time block in which it aired and the ratings it drew. But Salzman believes that because the budget for his sketch comedy show isn't as high as most cancelled network shows, there's a good possibility it's picked up somewhere else.

"I think we can change it without it really being noticeable," he says. "We’ve learned over the years how to do things on an efficient basis."

We'll see.
