“SNL” Adds Two Female Cast Members
13-Nov-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril
They are two relatively unknown comedians.
Saturday Night Live will announce today, Thursday, that they have added two new female cast members after Amy Poehler left the show to have a baby and star in a spin-off of The Office.
The two women are 21-year-old Abby Elliott, who is the daughter of former SNL cast member Chris Elliott, and Michaela Watkins, a member of L.A.'s improv group, the Groundlings, and actress on CBS's New Adventures of Old Christine.
The ratings for the show are dramatically up this season, which is largely due to the added attention Tina Fey's Sarah Palin impression has given the show.
Time will tell if SNL can continue its fantastic season, but a large part of that success seems to be the success of Watkins and Elliott in playing different, fresh characters on the show.
