Saturday Night Live Adds Two New Cast Members
13-Nov-2008
Written by: Amy Chandler
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s spots filled.
Saturday Night Live has added two new female members, Abby Elliott and Michaela Watkins, Variety reported on Wednesday. The two new additions will join the cast just in time to replace Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, two very popular actors on the sketch show. Both Elliott and Watkins have comedic backgrounds. Elliott is the daughter of Chris Elliott, who also performed on SNL during the 1994-95 season. However, the actress does have experience of her own. She is a veteran of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, an improv theater co-founded by Amy Poehler, and has contributed her voice to the popular cartoon King of the Hill. Watkins trained at the Groundlings Theater, where former SNL cast members Will Ferrell and Phil Hartman also performed, and was recently featured in a three-episode story of The New Adventures of Old Christine.
Elliott and Watkins are not the only newcomers to join the ranks. Lorne Michaels, executive producer of SNL, told the New York Times that more cast members may be added.
