Hathaway's Ex Not Adjusting Well to Prison

Con artist Raffaello Follieri, who was recently sentenced to more than four years in prison for fraud, says the conditions of his Brooklyn prison cell are "unspeakably unsanitary."

Con man Raffaello Follieri, who was dumped by actress Anne Hathaway earlier this year, is not enjoying the beginning of his four-year stint in federal prison for fraud, according to Reuters.

Follieri's lawyer, Flora Edwards, sent a letter to a judge detesting the "unspeakably unsanitary" conditions at the Brooklyn prison in which Follieri is being kept, including claims of rotten food, rat infestations and excrement in the showers.

"Mr. Follieri reports that he is in a windowless dormitory with approximately 120 other men," the letter said. "He says that he cannot eat because the food appears to be spoiled and that the toilet and shower facilities are unspeakably unsanitary, e.g., there is excrement in the shower and rats are roaming freely in the area. He says the stench is intolerable."

Edwards also said Follieri has become ill due to these conditions. His ailments include blood in his urine, a fever, shortness of breath and intestinal problems. Edwards requested that her client be transferred back to the Manhattan prison Follieri was held in while awaiting sentencing.

The judge has requested the government look into the allegations.

Follieri was sentenced in October to four and one-half years in federal prison after he pled guilty to cheating investors out of millions of dollars.
