The New York Jets Earn First Place
Last night's Thursday Night Football game might have just been the immense win that the New York Jets needed. The Jets defeated the New England Patriots in an overtime thriller with the final score being New York 34 to New England 31. After that victory, both the Jets and the Patriots have split the season series between each other. Just prior to the end of regulation, New England quarterback Matt Cassel threw a touchdown toss to Pro Bowl wide receiver Randy Moss to send the game into overtime. In overtime, New York's kicker in Jay Feely kicked the game winning field goal to seal the deal.
Of all people, New England quarterback Matt Cassel played well with 400 yards passing and three touchdown passes. However, it simply was not enough. At the end of the day, Jets running back Thomas Jones was able to control the clock by rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown. According to NFL.com, the Patriots have won the AFC East for the past five years. A win like this could go a long way for the Jets. The Patriots are now 6-4, and the Jets are first place in the AFC East at 7-3.
