17-Nov-2008
Written by: Kristin Hunt
The “Pan’s Labyrinth” director expects a stop-motion version of the fairy tale in three years.
Guillermo del Toro is developing a dark, stop-motion version of Pinocchio with the Jim Henson Company.
According to Variety, Del Toro will executive produce the project and write the screenplay with Gris Grimly, illustrator of the 2002 Pinocchio. Grimly and Adam Parrish King will direct.
Brian and Lisa Henson of the Jim Henson Company will also produce, along with their company’s Senior Vice President Jason Lust.
Del Toro estimated that the movie would take about three years to complete, in an interview with the Web site, Bloodydisgusting.com.
The Pinocchio project is yet another on the growing list of Del Toro productions. He has committed five years as director and co-writer of New Line and MGM’s The Hobbit – a two picture project – and acquired a three-year first-look deal with Universal. He is currently planning remakes of Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Slaughterhouse-Five under this latter deal, along with an adaptation of the Dan Simmons novel, Drood.
