Comedienne Wanda Sykes Goes Public About Prop. 8 and Her Sexuality

Popular comedienne Wanda Sykes expresses her outrage at the passage of Proposition 8 and her pride in her sexuality.

Popular comedienne Wanda Sykes surprised gatherers at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 14, by publicly revealing her sexuality for the first time while decrying the passage of Proposition 8 in California, which bans same-sex couples from wedding in the state.

"You know, I don't really talk about my sexual orientation. I didn't feel like I had to. I was just living my life. . . . Now, I gotta get in their face," said the actress according to the Associated Press.

Sykes, 44, also revealed that she had wed her girlfriend in California less than two weeks before the new law went into effect.

"When my wife and I leave California, I want to have my marriage also recognized in Nevada, in Arizona, all the way to New York," she said, also implying grassroots action would take place across the nation against the decree.
