Winona Ryder Hospitalized
20-Nov-2008
Written by: Marissa Willman

The actress was hospitalized after falling ill during a flight from Los Angeles to London.

Actress Winona Ryder was hospitalized and released after becoming ill during a transatlantic flight from Los Angeles to London, according to the Associated Press.

Ryder’s publicist, Mara Buxbaum, said the actress was taken to a London hospital “as a precaution” but was given a clean bill of health and has since been released.

Buxbaum said the 37-year-old actress is “fine now” but did not give any information as to the details of Ryder’s illness.

British Airways, the airline on which Ryder flew, issued a statement about the incident and said Ryder’s flight requested a priority landing after she fell ill.

"Our cabin crew looked after the female passenger as much as they could onboard and our passenger services staff also accompanied her to the local hospital," the British Airways statement said. "We wish her well."

Ryder starred in Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice. The actress also earned Oscar nominations for Little Women and The Age of Innocence. In 2002, Ryder was convicted of shoplifting several thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a Saks Fifth Avenue store in Beverly Hills. At the time of her arrest, Ryder was found to have several prescription medications in her possession but a drug charge was not filed as the medications were found to be legitimately prescribed to her.
