Fred Thompson Will Return to Acting
Former GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson is returning to acting after dropping his bid for head of the Republican National Committee.
"He seriously considered [the bid], but he called and said that it was not in the cards," former Thompson finance chairman B.C. "Scooter" Clippard told MSNBC.
Clippard was unsure of what acting parts await Thompson, but said that his potential television opportunities "probably financially far outweigh being chair of the RNC."
Thompson worked as both a lawyer and actor before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1993, but left politics after just one full term to resume acting. His much-hyped bid for the presidency ended in January after he failed to amass enough support.
Thompson is probably best known as District Attorney Arthur Branch on the Law and Order series. He most recently played Ulysses S. Grant in the six-time Emmy-winning TV movie, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.
