Twilight Rules the Box Office

Judging by the success of its opening weekend, it looks like heartthrob Robert Pattinson may be in for a long and illustrious career as a "vegetarian" vampire. In its first week of release, Twilight took in $70+ million in its opening weekend alone.

According to the Associated Press, preliminary reports estimate that the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's book took in a whopping $70.6 million. This figure is subject to change, either up or down, and does not take into account late Sunday showings of the vampire flick.

Twilight is the first in a four (soon to be five) book series by author Stephenie Meyer. Its popularity is being likened to another supernatural best-selling series: "Harry Potter."
