Hugh Jackman to Play Houdini on Broadway
26-Nov-2008
Written by: Kristin Hunt

The Sexiest Man Alive will portray the world’s most famous man of deception.

Hugh Jackman will star as Harry Houdini in a new Broadway musical about the magician’s life, Fox News reports.

Renowned film composer Danny Elfman, whose credits include everything from Edward Scissorhands to Mission: Impossible, will write the music, while David Yazbek will provide lyrics. Kurt Andersen, a novelist and cofounder of Spy Magazine, will pen the script. Jack O’Brien is set to direct.

Jackman has already begun work on the show’s magic routines, seeking advice from sleight-of-hand expert Ricky Jay. Jay appeared in Jackman’s movie, The Prestige, about two feuding magicians, in 2006. The producers may also consult David Blaine and Cirque du Soleil, according to Fox News.

In addition to recently being crowned the Sexiest Man Alive and awaiting the release of his new romance film, Australia, later this week, Jackman will star in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie is due next year and also stars Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds and Dominic Monaghan.
