Fox Shakes Up Its Midseason Lineup

Fox takes its midseason lineup and mixes it up to promote more viewership.
Fox’s midseason lineup is gearing up for a dramatic overhaul by moving certain shows from their comfortable time slots and premiering new shows to entice more viewers.
According to Hollywood Reporter, “The network plans to air Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated new series ‘Dollhouse’ on Fridays at 9 p.m., teaming the show with ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,’ which will move from its current Monday time period to serve as a lead-in. ‘Dollhouse’ stars Eliza Dushku as an agent for a secret organization that imprints its operatives with skills and personalities. The drama was originally scheduled to air with ‘24’ on Mondays in midseason but has been dogged with creative concerns.”
On Tuesdays, fans need not worry, American Idol and Fringe are not going anywhere. But, Hugh Laurie’s hugely successful series, House, will no longer be paired with the American Idol results show on Wednesdays.
Thursday’s reality show block of Hell’s Kitchen and Secret Millionaire will be given quite a revamping as Hell’s Kitchen will air at 9 p.m. with the David Boreanaz series, Bones, as a lead-in, despite the fact that the crime drama has performed exceedingly well in its current Wednesday slot. Secret Millionaire will air in December. This modification is good news for Bones, since Fox’s original plan was to shift the show to Fridays.
As for Fox’s Sunday lineup, it remains unchanged except for Hole in the Wall, a game show many thought would end up on the chopping block will instead launch the 7 p.m. hour.
Yet, those viewers who would like to see live-action comedies or new reality shows, they will be out of luck as far as Fox’s revised midseason schedule is concerned.
The Hollywood Reporter article also mentions, “‘Dollhouse’ and ‘Fringe’ are part of Fox’s Remote-TV plan, where advertisers pay a premium to sponsor a show in exchange for Fox running about half as many ads.’”
