Second Marriage Needed for Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt?
27-Nov-2008
Written by: Jessica McCumber

Their Nov. 20 wedding may not be legal here in the states.

Reality stars from The Hills, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, recently eloped, saying their vows at a ceremony held at the romantic Palmilla Resort near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The problem is, it may not be legal.

That’s because the couple forgot the most important thing needed (besides the dress) for a wedding: a marriage license.

They didn’t have it before their Nov. 20 ceremony meaning Mexico cannot legally recognize their marriage and neither can Los Angeles County where the couple lives.

The county doesn’t recognize wedding ceremonies that take place in other countries without legal acknowledgement from the other country's government.

L.A. County record supervisor Maricela Najera confirmed this to the Daily News, telling them of the marriage, “It won’t be legally recognized here.”

“They would need to go to court for that.” Najera added.

When asked if the couple known as “Speidi” would have to get the license and get hitched all over again, Najera said, “If they got married without a marriage license then yes, that's an option.”

So much for having everything covered.

Pratt had told Us Weekly that the ordeal was simple, stating, “Like other elopements that happen outside the country, we'll take care of the legal details when we get home.”

Guess he was wrong.

Fans need not worry, family of the two reality stars may not have been at the ceremony, but MTV camera crews were, and the whole thing will be viewable on The Hills later this season.
