John and Kate Plus Eight - Season 4 Episode 26
Today, it's the book episode for John, Kate, and the kids. The kids prepare for Oprah's show by screaming Oprah's name. Which has nothing to do with this episode. Especially since Oprah is stationed in Chicago. The main reason for this show is to show some of the promotion work that the family has to do. They are headed to New York City to visit Good Morning America and Fox and Friends to promote their book, Multiple Blessings. There are lots of pictures of the family in black and white and boy does Kate look different. They are still surprised to see their book in a store. The audience also gets some interesting shots from the Good Housekeeping episode and, of course, none of the kids stay in place.
John pulls out the Wii and they play Wii Music. It becomes a little bit of a shameless plug for Nintendo, but the kids seem to have a good time since the instruments are played by wiggling the remote. It really does look like the children's version of Rock Band. The stress kicks in when they have to go to sleep.
The family is bussed to New York City early in the morning heading for Good Morning America and the kids seem to be adjusted well for the promotion tour. During the bus over to Fox and Friends, the kids eat lollipops. The lollipops show up because a while back Kate mentioned rewarding them for being good by giving them organic lollipops, but someone at the studios misunderstood and gave a lot of lollipops to the kids. As they arrive to the building, Kate confiscates the lollipops. A sugar rush in the morning? Sounds like fun. As the family preps in the green room, Kate gets drinks for the kids. There's drama when the juice spills on clothes, hair is fixed, and the room is too small for 10 and a camera crew. Karen, the book publisher's publicist, hands some books over to Kate to sign.
The family is brought to the set and are plopped on a couch. I'm surprised that the couch can hold eight children. John and Kate are put on high chairs behind them. During the interview, the kids are rowdy. We're reminded that the book is really a labor of love.
John brings the kids back to the hotel. Kate went to the 700 Club for another interview. One of the girls points out that the "yellow cars" are taxis. Kate had an hour long interview. The family finishes their promotional tour and head over to Central Park. The kids are unleashed and they run everywhere. Kate places five kids on a tire swing. Cara and Mady slide down the swing. I like how Kate can interview and swing her kids; it's one of those parental things that I will never be able to do.
The kids next decide to go on a carriage ride. One of the boys walk into a pillar. I was that kid. Kate was with Collin, Aaden, Lex, and Hannah. John had the twins, Joel, and Leah. Or some combination. Sometimes it's just hard to tell; even when John or Kate tell the audience. The horse ride was apparently smooth and calming. They were setting up the ice-skating ring at the time they were in the city. John and Kate grab the children who were asleep and place them on the bus. They grab their bags and get bussed away. The kids each fall asleep on rows of the bus. John gets some time to sleep as well. The family gets back and John moves the bags into the garage.
