Remake of “Fame” to Hit Theaters in 2009

Production to begin this month.

The remake of the 1980 film, Fame is scheduled to begin production on December 3, while a release date of September 25, 2009 is projected.

As per Variety and Broadway.com, the film will be directed by Kevin Tancharoen and will follow the same story line as the original. The film is about the students at New York City’s High School of the Performing Arts, which consist of singers, actors, dancers, and artists. It follows them from auditions to graduation.

The stars attached also had their roots in performing arts school. Debbie Allen will be the school principal. She also made her film debut with the original. Megan Mullally will portray a voice instructor. She attended the School of American Ballet. Kelsey Grammer, who went to Juilliard, will play an orchestra maestro. Charles S. Dutton will play an acting teacher. He attended the Yale School of Drama. Bebe Neuwirth, who has two Tony Awards and also starred with Grammer on Cheers and Frasier, will play a dance instructor.

The young cast members portraying the students have some Broadway history as well. Paul McGill of A Chorus Line will be Kevin, a gay dancer. Naturi Naughton of Hairspray will play classical pianist Denise.
