Fey Reveals Story Behind Scar
2-Dec-2008

Comedian Tina Fey and her husband opened up about the scar on Fey’s left cheek, which was the result of a random attack during Fey’s childhood.
After years of being on television and the big screen, comedian Tina Fey explained the noticeable scar on her left cheek was the result of a random act of violence, according to People magazine.
"It's impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it," Fey said in the latest issue of Vanity Fair.
When Fey was 5 years old, she was playing in the front yard of her Upper Darby, Penn., home when a stranger approached her and slashed her cheek. Fey’s husband, Jeff Richmond, said the future comedian did not realize what had happened.
"She just thought somebody marked her with a pen," Richmond said.
The 38-year-old comedian said the attack and resulting scar did not affect her childhood. Fey said she remained unaware of the scar until she started appearing in front of the cameras.
"I proceeded unaware of it. I was a very confident little kid. It's really almost like I'm kind of able to forget about it, until I was on-camera," Fey said.
The comedian said that the trauma has a possibility to reappear when Fey’s 3-year-old daughter, Alice, reaches the age that Fey was when she was attacked.
"Supposedly, I will go crazy," Fey said. "My therapist says, 'When Alice is the age that you were, you may go crazy.'"
