Independent Spirit Award Nominees Announced

Hathaway, Penn among recognized.
The nominees for the Independent Spirit Awards have been announced, reports the Associated Press.
Rachel Getting Married, Frozen River and Ballast are the films with the most nominations, each receiving six.
The family drama, Rachel Getting Married, also scored a lead actress nomination for star Anne Hathaway. Her performance as a recovering addict is also receiving major Oscar buzz.
Hathaway will compete against Michelle Williams, who was nominated for her work in the film, Wendy and Lucy. That film was also nominated for best picture.
Melissa Leo of Frozen River, Summer Bashil for Towelhead and Tarra Riggs for Ballast were also nominated alongside Hathaway and Williams.
Mickey Rourke was nominated for lead actor in The Wrestler. The film received a best picture nomination as well.
Other actors who will fight for lead actor include Javier Bardem for the Woody Allen film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Richard Jenkins for The Visitor, Sean Penn for his much praised performance in Milk, and Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker.
