Stylista Episode 7 Recap
Johanna was shocked about being on the bottom last week, let alone the fact that Kate didn't go home. She talks to Kate about what her goals are, but Kate doesn't know where to go next in her life. Johanna tells her that how she dresses is wrong for Elle. Kate doesn't want to change herself just so she could get a job. At the dinner table, Ashlie tells Kate about how she's good at playing the game but not the industry. DyShaun would rather have Kate stay because she's drama and she is entertaining to him.
Back at the office, Brett gives this week's assistant task: preparing a hotel room for a super model, Maggie Rizer. They have the list of required items they need to get for the room and $300. They have two hours to prep the room. The rider included scented candles, arranged food, cured meat, and puppy items. Everyone started running and Kate is edited to make it look like she made it into the deli first. Each of them struggled in the supermarket. DyShaun went with the idea of quality over quantity. Kate runs to each of the stores, getting things like pink items for dogs, pressed flowers, and apparently got everything on the list. At the hotel, Ashlie ran through the list in a checklist fashion, DyShaun made sure the food was unopened. Johanna tried to focus on the dog.
Time's up and Ann and Maggie show up at Johanna's room first. To Maggie, the room smells musty, the orange cleaning product in the sink is questionable, the peanuts may not be organic, the lasagna was on a low table and the dogs ate it. Ashlie makes the mistake with the lasagna, the chocolate is questionable, and there are no matches for the candles. Megan gets some compliments for a few items, but doesn't get lavender soap for her bathroom. Kate tried her best to point out everything she did. Maggie's dogs peed in agreement. DyShaun gets positives for his unopened food, he scrubbed the sink, but he didn't get exactly everything.
Ann pointed out the positives and negatives. Mostly the things mentioned above. Maggie picks the winner as DyShaun. She was impressed because he thought about everything he did.
At the office, Bob gives an editorial challenge: a four page model shoot. There are three guidelines: full clothing access at the Elle closet, they are in charge of hair/makeup, and they have to make sure that the photographer and model are well informed. Brett comes back in and lets DyShaun pick teams. Team One is Kate and Ashlie. Team Two is Megan, Johanna, and DyShaun. They go to the closet to pick clothes. Ashlie thinks of the theme of a strong color with black as the thread. They both are surprised by how much they work together. Team two goes with a fun neon, but mature.
DyShaun pulls a pair of shorts out of the closet and tries to ask Kate if she liked them. She doesn't answer the question because he was trying his best to play mind tricks. Ashlie thinks of bathing suits and when Johanna thinks of it Kate hoarded all the swimsuits so none of the other team could get it.
The next day at the photoshoot, Kate is excited and hopeful. "Lee" is from Elite. Team Two goes first for the hair and makeup. They explain the sophisticated look of the design. DyShaun gets pushy and aggressive and tries to rush the makeup artists. It ticks off Megan that this side existed. Kate doesn't think that Team Two is that good because the colors are boring. Ashlie doesn't think that Team Two brought anything to the table. Megan was disappointed how pushy DyShaun was the whole time.
Ashlie and Kate explain an old Hollywood look to the makeup artists. Their second shot is an attempt at breaking out of colors. She has belts wrapped around her body in an attempt to break out. DyShaun laughs at the whole idea. By the end, Team Two got silent. With one minute to go they splash water on the model for fun. DyShaun is still confident, but Johanna is really nervous.
Back at the office, Team Two struggles with the order of shots. Kate is really selective by the layout for her shots with Team One. Johanna wants to make sure that there is some artistic sweeps of white to get the pages flowing. Ashlie tries to put her best photos of the same clothes together. As they run out of time, Kate and Ashlie forget the blurb. With two minutes left, DyShaun tries to look at Team Two's layout, but Ashlie has nothing to do with it and sends him away. DyShaun asks everyone what the name of the makeup artist is, but Kate tried to ignore it and DyShaun calls her Chlamydia. After the task is out of time she flips on DyShaun and storms out upset.
At the elevator, Ashlie tries her best to comfort Kate. Kate is relieved and happy that Ashlie is helping her. Ashlie confronts DyShaun about the situation. Johanna calls DyShaun immature. Ashlie calls Kate resilient.
Kate and Ashlie get time to talk in the apartment and are confident. They talk about making sure they have a powerful presentation.
The next day, Ann and the judges get to review the photos. The guest is Neil Hamil, someone high up from Elite Model Management. Team One goes first and explains the idea which is the '80s colors combined with black. Ashlie starts first and Kate continues to embellish the whole project. Joe compliments them. Ann likes the hair and makeup, but doesn't like the multi photo shot. She reminds them to let go of some photos because it needed to be edited down. Neil liked how the model posed, but Lee may not be a swimsuit model.
Team Two explains "Light Bright" which is very colorful and mature. Johanna's white space she placed is a great idea. They get called out for a lack of creativity and the lack of energy in the first two shots. Kate starts to whisper to Ashlie and Ann asks her why. She talks about how the other team didn't really consult with the hair and makeup. Megan is upset about Kate's desperation.
As the contestants wait for judging, Kate doesn't think that Team Two accomplished the idea of styling the model. Ashlie is worried that she would go home because she didn't edit enough.
At judging, Ann talks about how Team One's layout is questionable, the first shot is too loud, and the multi-photo page is bad. Kate is called out for loudness. Team Two's shot is clear, consistent, but lacks action. They lack the risk and experimentation.
Brett announces that Team Two is the winner and that Team One needs to talk to Ann. Ann liked the chances and the styling. She disliked the fact that there was a lack of cohesive story. Kate does have a strong point of view but her outbursts are bad. Ashlie had a strong fashion voice but lack of editing. Ashlie is safe and Kate goes home. She goes out in a storm calling out DyShaun, Megan, and Johanna. She thanks the judges and packs up. Team Two has a small party.
Next Week: The final four produces a runway show. Ashlie plays dirty against Megan. Johanna and Megan argue. DyShaun can't zip a zipper.
