Federline Tells His Side of the Story
4-Dec-2008
Written by: Marissa Willman
The former Mr. Spears opened up about his relationship with Britney, their children and his feelings for her, today.
While singer Britney Spears is hitting the media circuit for her comeback album, to open up about her recent divorce and public meltdown, ex-husband Kevin Federline opened up about his side of the story to People magazine.
The rapper and dancer said the birth of the couple’s two sons, Jayden, 2, and Sean Preston, 3, put a strain on the relationship.
“It's hard enough to be in a marriage, and then have a kid, then kids, it changes everything,” Federline said. “For me, I'd become more concerned with my children. Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important.”
Despite Spears’s claim in her recent MTV documentary that her meltdown was due, in part, to Federline leaving her, Federline said Spears was the one to leave him.
“We were having complications,” the rapper said. “I didn't give her an ultimatum, but I was trying to work stuff out with her, and she didn't even talk to me or anything and went behind my back and filed [for divorce]. [I was] completely blindsided.”
Federline also said things are looking up for the family as Spears works to get her life and career in order.
“It's totally turning around. It works out that [the kids] get to see her,” Federline said. “There's structure over there, there's structure at my house. We're trying to keep the same type of schedule. It doesn't have to be completely perfect, but the foundation is there.”
