Written by: Amy Chandler

Coldplay and Lil Wayne lead the way.

The Grammy nominees have been announced, and, as reported by Reuters, rapper Lil Wayne and British band Coldplay lead the pack. Wayne, whose album was the biggest seller of the year, going five times platinum, got eight nominations, while Coldplay, whose CD, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, was released this year, earned seven nods. Seven of Wayne’s nominations are in the rap category, where he will face off against Kanye West and Jay-Z. He will also compete against Coldplay for the honorable title of album of the year. Other nominees for album of the year include Ne-Yo, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and Radiohead.

For the first time, the nominees for the 51st Grammy Awards were announced on prime time and featured notable performances by Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, and Mariah Carey, and was hosted by Taylor Swift and LL Cool J, reported People magazine. The Grammy Awards will be shown live, February 8, on CBS.
