What Will You Be Watching on New Years Eve?
31-Dec-2008
Written by: Michael Pascua

Dick Clark isn’t the only person hosting a New Year’s Party.

During family parties, family and friends are glued to the television, following the drop of huge crystal balls, watching musical performances, and possibly watching fireworks displays on television. This year, the classic New Year’s Eve specials have some competition. Here is a partial list of programs that are on at midnight.

ABC - Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest - There’s something classic about Dick Clark, even if one has to grit their teeth to not feel bad when Clark speaks. The show again returns to ABC with the help of American Idol’s host, Ryan Seacrest, even though he’s associated with Fox. Apparently, the Black Eyed Peas’ female vocalist, Fergie, will be the Hollywood correspondent. Scheduled to perform are the Jonas Brothers, will.i.am, Taylor Swift, Ne-Yo, and Lionel Richie.

NBC - New Year's Eve with Carson Daly – Carson Daly was really the spiritual replacement of Dick Clark until Ryan Seacrest showed up. He does suffer from being a little bland though. The now late night host will be helped by other NBC correspondents Amy Robach, Allison Stewart, and Luke Russert. Scheduled to perform are Sir Elton John, Ludacris, T.I., the Ting Tings, and Katy Perry.

FOX - New Year’s Eve Live - Spike Feresten and Mark Thompson are the hosts. The real question is: Who are these two? They will be doing most of the show in Las Vegas, with some scenes of Times Square thrown in for good measure. Former American Idol contestants David Cook and Daughtry are performing. Also scheduled to appear are Lynyrd Skynyrd, Scott Weiland and a stunt by daredevil Robbie Knievel.

MTV - FNMTV Presents: A Miley-Sized Surprise . . . New Year's Eve 2009 – While the party rages on in New York City, Miley Cyrus attempts to take over a “fan’s” house. Isn’t everyone overly Miley saturated yet? The artists scheduled to arrive at the Times Square party are the Veronicas, All Time Low, the Academy Is . . . and Kevin Rudolf. I’m sure Metro Station will show up as well, since there is a Cyrus connection.

CNN - New Year's Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin – Kathy Griffin, probably known best for her cable show, will basically throw witty comments at Anderson and he will try to make sure that bad words aren’t said on air. It’s actually funnier than I described it.

The Disney Channel - Totally New Year – Totally! The cast of Wizards of Waverly Place: Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, and Jennifer Stone, will serve as the hosts of the show. Apparently, other Disney Channel slaves are reported to help celebrate the show: Miley Cyrus (again? On this and MTV?), Emily Osment, Demi Lovato, Brandon Smith, Brenda Song, Mitchel Musso, and the Jonas Brothers.

PBS - Charlie Rose - Maybe you’re too mature for Miley Cyrus. PBS is apparently showing Charlie Rose. Tune in to find out what he will be discussing.
