Professional dancers Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy plan to wed.

Dancing with the Stars' Karina Smirnoff rang in the new year with a ring. E! Online and People are reporting that professional dancers Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are engaged. The 28-year-old 2005 Yankee Classic Professional Latin Champion reportedly asked Smirnoff to be his wife with a Harry Winston ring on New Year's Eve. The two celebrated their engagement while ushering in 2009 at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. There is no word on when the couple plans to tie the knot.

The Ukraine natives have been together for about six months. They began their relationship over the summer, not long after the 30-year-old five-time U.S. dancing champion broke up with her former dancer partner and boyfriend of two years, Mario Lopez.

Smirnoff and Chmerkovskiy are currently performing on the "Dancing with the Stars" tour and will be seen on the eighth season of the ABC show which premieres on March 9.
