Not the Right Stuff for Shepard as He Gets Charged for DUI
5-Jan-2009
Written by: Edgar Acero
Just because you’re a celebrity doesn’t mean that you can get away with bending the rules, even if you have a Pulitzer Prize under your belt.
Just ask Sam Shepard, who was stopped by police over the weekend for driving while intoxicated.
The 65-year-old actor and playwright is facing DUI and speeding charges after Normal, Illinois police noticed him driving 46 mph in a 30 mph limit zone.
According to a police spokesman, Shepard took a breath test which showed his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit. The actor told police that he had stopped at a pub in Illinois on his way from Minnesota to Kentucky, where he lives with actress Jessica Lange.
The star, who was nominated for an Oscar for the 1984 film, The Right Stuff, appears sleepy and uncombed in his mug shot after the incident.
