Charges Against Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright Are Dropped
The misdemeanor charges that were filed against actors Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright and five of their crew members have officially been dropped on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports.
The men were arrested for interfering with the police last July in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a fight broke out at a local bar called the Stray Cat, during a celebration party for conclusion of their movie, W. The bartender had asked the rowdy group of seven to leave twice before calling police. When police showed up, they arrested all seven and took them to jail.
Months later, a video surfaced on the Internet showing that the men had been treated brutally by police. It featured Brolin and Wright standing with Brolin's arm around Wright. Police then approach the men and pepper spray Brolin in the face. Wright is also thrown to the ground and tasered before being handcuffed.
Wright is quoted in an official statement saying, "These arrests should never have happened. Thankfully the prosecution was able to see that and dismiss all charges. Unfortunately, there are no winners here, but I remain hopeful that Shreveport officials will be encouraged to dig at the root causes of certain police incidents down there. An old-fashioned refusal of service led to our arrest that night, and there's no room for that in America in 2009."
Even though the cause of the scuffle is still unknown, it may be assumed that racism was probably involved, based on this statement.
