80-Year-Old Lobster Freed from Restaurant
A very old lobster was freed from the shackles of a New York City restaurant on Jan. 9. The lobster, affectionately named George, was reportedly freed after residing in a restaurant tank for about a week and a half before animal-rights activists got him a free ride to Kennebunkport, Maine.
According to the Associated Press, various estimates have been given for the lobster's age, ranging from 80 to 140 years old, though it is widely believed that George is more likely an octogenarian than a centenarian.
According to the New York Daily News, George's brief home was at Crab City, a seafood joint in Manhattan where George served the role of "mascot" rather than main dish.
George weighs about 20 pounds and was freed on Friday off the coast of Kennebunkport, Maine, in reportedly protected waters.
Good luck, George, and way to keep swimming!
